Connecting the Video Source

There are several methods to connect a video source to the Video Streaming Console. The Video Streaming Console is the user interface the broadcaster will use to distribute the video signal to the Internet. Once the console detects a video signal, the video streaming may begin.

There are several things to consider when deciding how to input your video device:

  • Number of cameras
  • Distance from the camera(s) to the computer with the streaming console
  • Input sources available on your computer
There are two recommended video input sources:
    1. USB2
    2. Firewire

Single Camera Installation

To connect a single camera to a computer you may do the following:

  • Connect a dv camera directly to the computer using Firewire. The computer must have a Firewire port.
  • Connect a camera with composite video outputs to a USB2 video capture device.
  • Connect a camera with composite video outputs to an internal video capture card using composite or s-video cables.

There are other methods of connecting a video camera. The above options are among the most popular and accessible.

Once the camera is connected and has power, the Video Streaming Console will automatically detect the the signal. If the console does not detect the signal, you may have to change the settings for your Flash player to select the camera source. See adobe.com for more instructions on configuring the Flash player.

Multiple Camera Installation

To connect multiple cameras to the Video Streaming Console, the same principals above apple for connecting a composite video device. The primary addition when connecting multiple cameras is the use of a video switcher.

Using a video switcher, you will connect all of your cameras to the video switcher. From the switcher output, you will connect a cable to the computer internal or external capture device.
